In brief
"Ceylon Direkthilfe"
means to help Sri Lanka "on demand". As the needs shows up. Like the
circumstances force to act. As soon the heart is alerted and the mind is
inspirated.
As a fundamental policy
we decide "by the heart" or faith in our intuitive feeling. We avoid
long-term and complicate investigations or formal selections. We do what
the chance as our guardian angel is showing us. We do everything, what is possible.
And we try hard to make possible, what must be done.

" 1 % aid
achieves more
than 100 % compassion "
Mission The more this world becomes a
real global village, the more we are one family to stay together. Who feels
that souls are stimulated even they are 'strange cultures', knows that it is
our duty or even our designation to spend aid if somebody is in trouble.
Doesn't matter his religion, age, color or nationality.
& Vision We focus this very strong
believing on the wonderful island of Sri Lanka, which is a place for us
where we found to ourself. We pay respect to this country by supporting
disabled and poor people to help themself mastering their life. We help
those, who are willing to help theirself and of course those, who are not
able to do. With several start up programms concerning learning, living,
working we attend them on their first and further steps.

Even you
may not read the german words our website is created in, the pictures can
tell a little story about our work and give a first impression of what
Ceylon Direct Help Organisation was doing in Sri Lanka over the years.

As
it has been once before
Faced with the pictures
of thousands and thousands dead bodies, the debris covering former pretty
properties, gardens, parks und fields, roads and other spots, we estimate,
the process of rebuildung and reconstruction will take a few years;
even a decade. Aid, support, help, encouragement is not only a need
of today. Not only a short interlude. It is a task for many over many
years. We ask you to keep this in mind.

The
world's most famous symbol of a Tsunami became reality. A terrific one.

background
We have
been running this aid organization for Sri Lanka for the last 25 years. It
was founded and established in Germany and is a registered NGO in the EU
and Germany.
It
has a dual mission: on the one hand it runs a center for handicapped
children in the interior of the country, but has over the years also built a
total of 600 houses for poor people, 100 of which are located along the
coast - houses that have now all been destroyed.
We have currently
issued an appeal for as much money as possible to rebuild the destroyed coastal homes
and have received a bit more than 100,000 so far. The money will be spent on rebuilding the
houses and providing basic furniture. In the existing centre for handicapped
children, Tsunami affected victims and orphaned children will be taken in.
We also plan on allocating some of the resources to other priority
rebuilding efforts in the country that will be identified when we visit Sri
Lanka for 5 weeks just now.
With only 2 employees
in Germany, CDH has low administrative overheads and as it is committed to
the long-term reconstruction of the country, rather than immediate crisis
relief, CDH provides an alternative to current international relief
organizations (CARE, OXFAM, etc.) operating in the country. CDH operates
through a local partner organization with whom we have worked for last 20
years, who is responsible for in-country project implementation and
oversight.
